ANJALI SACHDEVA, DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

I am a second year medical student at University of Toronto’s Termerty School of Medicine. I completed a Bachelors of Health Sciences (Honours) at McMaster University with a concurrent certificate in the Language of Medicine and Health. I am originally from Etobicoke, Ontario. I am an avid dancer, cooking enthusiast and dog lover. I got involved with Menstruation REDefined after learning about the jarring statistics associated with period poverty. I am so proud of all the work we have done and so excited to continue to implement initiatives that address menstrual inequity issues within our own institutions.

ISABELLA BLACK, DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS

I am an accountant and am doing my Masters of Accounting at Carleton University in Ottawa. I am originally from Hamilton, Ontario. In my free time I love to read and I attend a monthly book club! I got involved with Menstruation REDefined after I watched the documentary Period. End of Sentence, and became very passionate about this movement. Menstruation REDefined was the perfect way to make a change by educating others on menstruation and helping end period poverty!

SARAH WONG, DIRECTOR OF EVENTS

I am a first year medical student at the University of British Columbia. Prior to this, I completed a Bachelors in Health Sciences at McMaster University. I love to spend time outdoors, whether that be hiking or polar dips in the ocean. In my free time, I also love to read and am currently trying to pick up pottery! Menstrual equity and community education have always been key interests of mine, so I am thrilled to join Menstruation REDefined and eager to contribute and make a positive impact together.

EMI RONI, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

I’m a recent Western alum with, graduating with a Bachelor of Science! I veered a bit away from my educational background in my career, but I still serve as a research assistant in the field of open health to satisfy my love for science.

I currently work at the Superior Court of Justice, and have a passion for legislative and policy work. I also serve on the Combating Racism, Discrimination and Hatred Advisory Committee with the City of Mississauga, allowing me to further my reach in implementing EDI principles in how our communities are run. In this field, it is important to continue to learn and educate oneself on current issues and practices, and so I recently just completed the Anti-Racism Foundations Certificate from Western’s Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.

On the other hand, I have a passion for communications, and have worked in a variety of roles in the field, from journalism to marketing. I also enjoy philanthropy, whether it be serving as a teen mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, or at the local nature conservancy feeding the local wildlife!

In my free time, you can catch me reading a Stephen King novel, cuddling with my pets or sipping on a passion fruit green tea with brown sugar boba!

Working with Menstruation REDefined allows me to unite these interests and work with a dedicated team, and tackle menstrual inequity through our various initiatives!

RACHEL PHORD-TOY, SECRETARY

I am a fourth-year student pursuing health sciences at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Since I was raised on the west coast in Vancouver, I enjoy outdoor activities like kayaking and hiking. In my free time, you’ll also find me reading books, listening to Greek mythology podcasts, and trying new restaurants!

Menstruation REDefined’s goals lie at the intersection of my passions: women’s health and advocacy. I am ecstatic to be a part of this organization and making menstrual products more accessible across Canada!
